Striper Master Lake Texoma Striper Fishing Report 4/30/2011

Lake Texoma elevation is 613.33 which is 1 1/2 ft low and water tempter is 64 degrees. The striper fishing has picked up and the sand bass fishing has been excellent. Were finding allot steady action but the sizes have varied from day to day.The wind the past several weeks has really made it tough to get to the feeding stripers but when we can move around a little we seem to put a box of stripers and sand bass together.

I think this year has a lot of us baffled. We have sand bass that should have spawned out a month ago still full of eggs and we have threadfin shad that shouldn't be spawning until next month spawning now.

Searching for Better Fish
Lots of rain and storms should mean a successful striper spawn this year for Lake Texoma. Most of our larger fish are now up river delivering their eggs to ensure a healthy and stable population of fish. The fishing this past week has continued to improve but with the late spawn it is not as good as it has been in years past this time of year. Little fish are almost guaranteed now and you can catch as many as you want all day long. Catching better fish, since there are limited numbers in the main lake now, takes a little more skill and a lot more luck. I’ve been spending most of the time on my trips trying to put nice fish in the box. Some days it works out for me and some days I have to settle for the little fish.

StriperInc Lake Texoma Fishing Report 3/28/2011

It seems all the signs of spring are now upon us. Wild flowers are starting to bloom, the trees are getting their leaves, my garden is coming up, and most importantly, the fish are starting to bite here on Lake Texoma. With the warmer weather the surface temperature has climbed into the 60’s in the main lake which is the striper’s preferred temperature range where they feed the most aggressively. As a result the fishing has really been turning on and we are even starting to see a big fish turn up here and there. It is still a little hit and miss but both the hit and the miss are getting better by the day.

Monday 3/21 I had three guys and it was a little slow, I think I ended up with around 8 or 10 fish for 3 guys.

Tuesday 3/22 the wind was blowing like crazy and I tried to get my group to cancel but they wanted to give it a shot anyway. Well, 4-5 ft seas are no joke but safely navigated to a safe spot out of the wind where we could catch some fish. We ended up with 19 fish for a group of 4 which I was please to have considering the conditions and the fact we were limited to fishing one spot.

StriperInc Lake Texoma Fishing Report 3/7/2011

It is evident that March has arrived as it seems the wind is always blowing which can make fishing tough as Lake Texoma can get rough and you are limited to where you can fish but I’ve been making it work thus far. The catfishing has died down a bit as expected for March and the striper fishing is beginning to pick back up as the water warms. Theoretically, each week should be better than the last with the continually warming water temperatures.

Friday March 4th we tried our luck catfishing and it had gotten much slower from the previous week. We fished live and cut gizzard shad on the bottom in 70-80ft. of water on anchor. There were several fish still there and we were getting lots of bites but th ey just were not in the mood. They would just chew on the bait and never really take it. I moved several times but it was the same story everywhere I went. We ended up bringing home 10 cats up to 8 pounds to split between 2 people which was not terrible but we should have done better. We did manage to lose our 2 biggest fish which would have certainly made our day but that's how it goes sometimes. Still it was a great day out and we had a blast.

Striper Master Lake Texoma Striper Fishing Report 2/12/2011

Lake Texoma lake elevation is 614.15 and water temperature is a frigid 40 degrees.  I haven't posted a fishing report for several weeks due to the weather. Winter fishing is my favorite time of year to fish but with the brutal temperatures the past 2 weeks I haven't put my boat in the water since January 31st.  After looking at the forecast for the next 7-10 days its time to get back on the water.I'm hoping things have changed a little for the better.

Cross Creek Striper Fishing report 1/15/2011

Well as far as fishing this time of year, I guess I am a land lover.    I have never found the cold weather or the fish to be interesting enough to freeze to death.   I feel I don't hate the fish that much, and know it gets better fishing during the spring, and the rest of the year.  The fish are somewhat more healthy and fat, with less pressure that the prime fishing times, but during the cold, bait is hard to find, and so are the fish.

I will be at a few of the fishing shows here and there, but the best way to find me in my website. I have a nice clean safe boat, and have been doing this for 18 years.    There will be times the fish will not bite no matter what, but that time is less than 1% of the time, and weather is a factor during these times.

    Good Fishing……."JD"

Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Lure Bite Turning On!

Winter patterns are finally setting in here on Lake Texoma. Water temperature is at 49⁰ and elevation is normal. Every year around January, the fish go through a transition as the water temperature drops into the 40’s. It seems like one day after catching limits for several days straight, you hit a wall and the fish you were catching off of bait just will not bite anymore and the lure bite starts to get hot and lasts through March. Well, we are not at that point. Bait fishing is dead and the lure bite is on. The cat fishing is also picking up as well.

Striper Master Lake Texoma Striper Fishing Report 12/28/2010

Lake Texoma elevation is 616.07 and water temperature is 47-49 degrees. OurLake Texoma striper fishing continues to improve daily.  I fished several trips the week before Christmas and into this week and the striper fishing is probably at it's best right now. With the cold weather settling in and these fast fronts blowing thru the stripers are on their winter feed and really chunking up. I have mainly fished west of Highport using live bait and the depths have varied almost daily but mainly the 25-50 ft of water.

Striper Master Lake Texoma Striper Fishing Report 12/18/2010

So much for my November fishing report. With a week and a half of vacation the first of the month and relatives visiting thru Thanksgiving week, the month of November just simply got away from me. So I'll just get started with our striper fishing for the first part of December. Lake Texoma lake level is 616.61 witch is 1.27 ft low.  The water is off color and water temp is 49-51 degrees. The seagulls have moved in by the thousands and can help you find the good schools of stripers,  but they can also fool you.

A brisk, beautiful morning on Lake Texoma

Saturday morning is what most Texans call brisk, temperature 39, winds 4-5 mph.   We headed out of Highport Marina and crusied over to the Big Mineral Arm of Lake Texoma.  I have to say that with longjohns and a couple of layers of shirts and some coveralls it wasn't too bad.  As we eased thru Cedar Mills Marina to get bait we had to pause and check out the beautiful sunrise.  The colors were spectacular.  Another one of those "Only on Lake Texoma" moments.

We fished off the points and creek channels for a couple of hours.  We would set up a drift and catch one or two stripers on each pass.  After two or three passes the fish would get lockjaw and we would have to move to a new spot.  We caught a good mess of pan sized stripers, no big ones today.

After about three hours on the lake it started to get colder, errr, brisker. We tried chasing the birds but they were in the resting mood. After a trip up to Island View we decided to call it a day and head in for a lunch of fresh Lake Texoma stripers.
