Spring Fever Hits Lake Texoma

The fishing is good all year long, but for most fishing enthusiasts it starts in March.   March is the beginning of the spring fishing months and this may be the best time to catch a big one.  The stripers will be staging to make their annual spawn up the rivers.  This is when the big sows are egg ladened and weigh up to five pounds more than any other time of year.  Last March was great for not only numbers of fish, but also for big fish up to twenty-three pounds.   So far, March has been a great month.   A lot of catching and a few norther’s (weather fronts) mixed together.  The weather seems to be milder this month but just wait a minute and Mother Nature will throw you a curve.

Casting artificial lures is the most sporting way to capture these fighting fish.  Both our customers and our guides enjoy “The thrill of the hunt”.   This could be compared to bass on steroids.   We run routes and fish on structure like main lake points, humps, ledges, and mouths of creeks.   The Road Runner jig tipped with a seven-inch worm is our big fish bait of choice.   Soft plastic lures like the Sassy shad and Coho minnow jigs are also deadly.   We have to thank our new sponsor Castaway for the great fishing rods they have furnished.
